Huawei Honor 4C belongs to the class of inexpensive smartphones with powerful hardware. This device was announced in April 2015. The device has an attractive design and also looks really expensive.

Appearance and ergonomics

The rectangular body with neatly rounded corners is made of a composite material consisting of three special layers. The entire perimeter is decorated with a spectacular aluminum edging. About 76% of the total area of the front part is occupied by the screen, which is completely covered with protective glass.

A controversial solution is the presence of a black frame around the display. This makes the matrix visually even larger, but only when turned off. But back cover received an interesting pattern in the Chinese style, reminiscent of a silk covering. The case has undergone progressive processing and polishing. Thanks to this, you can hold the device in your hand with special comfort for a very long time.

It is worth highlighting a separate metal block on the back side where the camera and flash are located. Dimensions of Huawei Honor 4C: height - 143.3 mm, thickness - 8.8 mm, width - 72 mm, weight - 162 g. Case color - gold, white, black.

Display

The smartphone is equipped with a fairly standard 5-inch IPS screen for its level. A resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels was quite sufficient for such a diagonal. As for the image, it is of amazing quality. The display has acquired a rich color palette, as well as a solid reserve of brightness, so as not to go blind in the sun. There are also manual settings, where not only brightness is adjusted, but also color temperature.

Hardware and performance

Honor 4C works under Android control 4.4. This operating system is heavily modified using the EMUI 3.0 shell. The hardware base consists of a Kirin 620 processor (eight cores, clock frequency 1200 MHz), 2 GB of RAM, Mali-450 MP4 graphics accelerator and 8 GB of internal memory. There is the possibility of expanding free space up to 32 GB (MicroSD).

The gadget behaves very well in all everyday tasks. Applications and the interface do not slow down, there are no slowdowns. In AnTuTu (version 5.7), Honor 4C scores about 31,000 points. Demanding games also run, but the number of frames is not always pleasing. It is important that the processor practically does not heat up during operation.

Communication and sound

The sound capabilities of Huawei Honor 4C are impressive, although the device belongs to the budget segment. There is a DTS surround sound system, as well as a multimedia speaker with a good volume reserve. The microphone with a unique noise reduction system makes the user's voice clear and clear. The interlocutor can also be heard clearly. At the same time, support for two SIM cards sets this smartphone apart. The device can only work in 3G and 2G networks.

Camera

The Huawei Honor 4C has a 13-megapixel main camera with a diode flash and an aperture ratio of 2.0. There is a rich set of settings, including the popular HDR mode, as well as various decorations. You can change the focus point. At the same time, the camera starts up really quickly. The pictures themselves are taken instantly. In low light, noise is immediately visible, and during the day the photographs turn out very good quality. The front 5-megapixel camera has a wide angle, so it captures more objects in the frame.

Conclusions

For 10,000 rubles, Honor 4C is an excellent budget option that is suitable for everyone. It is worth noting that many other smartphones with similar hardware are several times more expensive. The kit includes a charger, instructions, USB cable and warranty.

Pros:

  • Fast and high-quality interface.
  • High performance.
  • Good cameras.
  • Pleasant and clear sound.
  • Great display.

Cons:

  • No LTE.
  • Not enough built-in memory.

Video reviews

New line affordable smartphones Honor from Huawei has entered a new stage of development. The quality of materials has improved, the characteristics have grown, and most importantly - price remained the same. This is best seen in the example Honor 4C. The device turned out to be easy to use, stable in operation and capable of performing almost any task.

The buyer will be able to find a cable in the package Micro USB, power supply and various accompanying papers, including a warranty card and brief instructions. It's meager, boring - there is only everything you need, so we won't dwell on this point.

Design and usability

The first procedure that any user faces is installing SIM cards. By the way, there are two of them here and both have the Micro SIM form factor. However, you won’t be able to install the cards right away. There are no trays, plugs, slots or other hints on the case as to where to insert the SIM cards.

This can only mean one thing: the back cover of the device is removable. Everything is true, but around the perimeter of the smartphone you will not find any protrusion or recess to pick up the battery compartment cover and this leads to a slight stupor. In fact, you can carefully (if you have nails, of course) pry the lid off anywhere and everything will go on simply.

Having exposed the insides of the device, you will be rewarded for your efforts: there are connectors for SIM cards and a memory card.

By the way, the battery here is non-removable. You can look at it, touch it, but you cannot take it out. This is the approach.

Let's return to the appearance of our hero. The entire front surface is occupied by protective glass (type and generation are not specified). It is slightly recessed against the background of a chrome edging protruding around the perimeter of the smartphone.

The very fact that a device of this class contains a grease-repellent layer is already not bad.

The first thing that catches your eye is the wide, black frames along the edges of the display. They are very noticeable and take some getting used to.

On a black device this point is not so noticeable, but on a white device the frames still protrude quite decently. You shouldn’t rely on press images; if possible, it’s best to look at the smartphone in person before purchasing.

Above the display are located (from left to right): an LED signaling various notifications, proximity and ambient light sensors, a speaker grid and a front camera. It is worth noting that many devices of this class do not automatically adjust the screen brightness depending on the lighting, but Huawei did not skimp on this point. The brightness setting is adjusted according to automatic mode always correct and without delay, and if the brightness is still not enough, then you can calibrate the value from which the machine will start in your own way. A very correct implementation, which for unknown reasons is neglected by many manufacturers.

Below the display there are icons for system control icons. The surface here is touch sensitive, but it does not glow in the dark, so at night you will have to press from memory. The screen installed in the 4C is still smaller than in the same Honor 6 Plus, so they decided to move the keys to the body so as not to eat away the useful display space. The approach is controversial, since in games or when watching videos, false clicks will often be triggered. You have to somehow keep the device in landscape orientation.

The back surface is dotted with diamond-shaped stripes. The guys from Huawei report that all this is for a reason. This texture imitates a silk coating, which has a positive effect on ease of use. The device is more difficult to drop from your hands; it does not slip. In addition, there is another practical point. It’s hard for me to imagine even deep scratches appearing on the back of a smartphone. It will always look like new.

The device fits perfectly in the hand. It is moderately thick (8.8 mm) and, thanks to its five-inch screen, easily fits into any palm. Unlike Honor 6 Plus, where this is more necessary with its 5.5-inch display, Honor 4C offers comfortable one-handed operation. In places where you need to enter numbers or letters, the keyboard block is shifted to the left or right edge.

The dimensions of a smartphone are best compared on the plate with its closest competitors.

On the left side we will not find anything, and the opposite side is already occupied by the volume and power buttons. They protrude noticeably above the surface of the case, are generally comfortable and have a clear pressing stroke.

At the top end of the device there is a 3.5 mm audio output for connecting headphones, and the bottom part has a Micro USB connector and a microphone hole.

The second microphone, responsible for recording sound when shooting video, is located on the back of the smartphone. Not far from it is the main camera lens with LED flash. They are framed in a textured metal frame that protrudes slightly above the surface of the back panel.

There is a company logo in the center, and a multimedia speaker closer to the bottom edge. This arrangement of the speaker cannot be called 100% successful, since the sound is muffled by about a quarter when the device lies with its back on a flat surface. The overall volume of the speaker, by the way, is at an average level - nothing extraordinary.

Display

The display diagonal is exactly 5 inches and the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels. Density 293 pixels per square inch. This is enough for icons and fonts to look smooth. Users with excellent vision will still be able to distinguish pixelation in certain places, but to do this they need to peer at the screen from a distance of 5-10 cm. None of us use devices at such a distance from our eyes.

Considering that an IPS matrix is installed here, color reproduction should be excellent. However, in practice, everything turned out to be not so smooth. The colors are not particularly rich, and the image as a whole is not very contrasty. All this can be clearly seen in the comparison with the screen in Honor 6 Plus. Yes, the devices come from different weight categories, but you can get a general idea of color rendering and viewing angles.

You can see how the image turns slightly green, and the overall brightness margin is not high enough.

In the settings you can change the color rendering temperature: from cold to warmer. This doesn’t really affect the overall color rendering, although you can try playing with this parameter.

The screen behaves well in the sun. Of course, the picture fades a lot, but you can make out the fonts and icons without much difficulty.

A little information about the installed HiSilicon Kirin 620 processor. This 64-bit chip was put into mass production at the end of 2014 - beginning of 2015 and is produced using 28-nanometer technology. It is based on eight Cortex-A53 cores of 1.2 GHz at maximum load. The system assumes the ability to connect to LTE, but Honor 4C still does not support the fourth generation of cellular networks. It is difficult to say at what level this limitation is present: hardware or software.

Among the obvious disadvantages, it is worth highlighting the very small amount of available memory for storing files - about 3 GB, despite the fact that 8 gigabytes are initially preinstalled.

The lack of NFC is completely normal for devices of this class, so this cannot be considered a shortcoming.

The overall performance of the system is satisfactory. I didn't notice any animation lag on desktops or in menus. All lists are scrolled through without delay, including the gallery, surfing in the browser and other places that are difficult for the device.

Test results in popular benchmarks are in front of you.

The device performed well in time-tested toys. Asphalt 8 device runs without problems at maximum graphics settings. The picture always looks smooth, no stuttering or frame drops were noticed.

Dead Trigger 2 crashed with an error even at the loading stage, so there is nothing to discuss here. It would seem that a simple and resource-intensive toy, Crossy Road, should fly at the speed of sound at 4C. But no! In fast-paced scenes, stuttering and frame rate drops are noticeable.

Front camera

The front camera here uses a 5-megapixel sensor, on top of which a wide-angle lens is installed. The latter is capable of capturing an image 88 degrees in front of it.

The resolution of the final images does not exceed 2592 x 1952 pixels.

You can take a photo using touch button on the screen and using voice commands. In addition, it supports shooting by smiling using the volume button, as well as by simply tapping anywhere in the viewfinder.

It is possible to take panoramic portraits, create photos with sound, and also stick some kind of stamp on the final photo, for example, current date, location, weather or something similar.

The front camera can also shoot videos, although only in 720p resolution.

Main camera

A lens with a constant f/2.0 aperture is installed on top of the 13-megapixel photosensor. The maximum resolution of the final images does not exceed 4160 x 3120 pixels.

The set of basic camera capabilities is standard: HDR, panoramas, burst shooting, audio notes, and applying filters to the picture in LifeView mode.

There is no second camera here, like in the Honor 6 Plus, but there is a completely software feature with which you can change the focus from foreground to background after shooting. The setting generally works correctly and is best revealed when creating macro photographs.

Focus on the foreground

Focus on the background

Examples of photographs taken with a smartphone in various conditions are below. And the original images can be obtained in one archive from here.

You can take a photo by double pressing the volume down button directly from sleep mode. In this case, the camera does almost snapshot and an interesting shot will not go away. The only nuance is that autofocus in this mode does not have time to work, so shooting, for example, macro objects is impossible - the photos will always be out of focus.

The device is capable of shooting Full HD video at 30 frames per second. You don't have to go far to find results.

Battery life

As we have already found out, the smartphone has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 2550 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the device can work in energy saving mode for up to 7 days, up to two days with intensive use and more than three days with moderate use. Details of the tests are not disclosed.

In practice, I have never been able to get the device to last a full two days on a single charge. A day or a little more is the indicator that you should focus on with Honor 4C.

For a clearer understanding of the picture, I’ll give an example of how I used a smartphone: two active SIM cards, screen operation time 2 hours, connection via 3G for the same two hours (Chrome, Instagram and a few other web applications), about 10 minutes conversations per day. In this mode, the device could hardly survive for 30 or a little more hours.

Here's what else I noticed interesting during testing. When the 4 percent value is reached, the phone suddenly announces that it will automatically turn off within 30 seconds.

On the face incorrect operation battery status at critically low charge levels.

Still, it often happens that 2-3 percent can make it possible to perform one or two important operations: making a call, checking mail, launching a card, etc. In reality, the system will not allow you to do this.

Of course, there are various energy saving systems here: smart mode, extreme and normal scenarios for using device resources. The built-in Power Monitor app helps the user track which programs are consuming the most energy and provides various tips for optimizing power supply.

Multimedia

Of course, it comes pre-installed with its own application for playing music. It is not replete with various settings. There is only everything you need here: breaking down songs into categories, playlists, turning off playback by timer, and some semblance of Cower Flow, which once existed on iOS.

Of the sound enhancers, only DTS mode is available. I think you can always keep it on, since the sound with this feature becomes really interesting.

Overall, the sound quality (with DTS enabled) is at a level comparable to most devices on the market. Honor 4C will not be able to provide any special audiophile experience, but it can easily satisfy the tastes of 95% of users.

Software shell

The proprietary EMUI 3.0 shell is installed on top of Android 4.4.2. It is characterized by airy design, thin lines in the design of menu items and many round interfaces in the most different places systems.

The appearance of the system is not annoying or distracting, but on the contrary, it makes using the smartphone enjoyable and even, so to speak, productive. You don’t need to spend a lot of time to understand the manufacturer’s logic in the design of menus and settings. All this happens naturally and quickly here.

All applications are located on desktops by default. There is no separate key to call up a list of programs installed on the phone. The corners of each icon are trimmed by the shell to a rounded state, causing everything, even third party applications do not stand out from the general outline and look very stylish.

It is possible to change the design themes. The shell catalog contains both official solutions and creations of third-party developers. Of course, there are a lot of latter ones, so you can get stuck here for a long time, choosing the appropriate design to your liking.

Gestures

Interestingly, Honor 4C has several additional gestures that did not find a place even in its older brother Honor 6 Plus. For example, even with the screen turned off, you can draw the letter “C” to quickly launch the camera. The letter "E" launches the proprietary browser (not Chrome), "W" is the weather application, and "M" is the music player. There is only one caveat - you need to accustom yourself to using all these amenities for some time. I don’t have the willpower for this - I launch programs the old fashioned way.

Double tapping the sleeping screen wakes it up, but does not unlock the device. There is no need to pick up the phone from the table. I tapped on it and looked at the time.

Bottom line

On at the moment buy Honor 4C possible only in company store on the official website. The cost now, for a limited time, is about 8,990 rubles per device, but the manufacturer promised that for this price Only those who pre-order will be able to receive the smartphone. So far, sales are being carried out in waves, lots are sold out quickly (in about an hour), what will happen next - time will tell.

It’s difficult now to talk about how much the device will cost in a couple of months, so we’ll talk exclusively about the pros and cons of the model.

The advantages of the device include fairly good hardware, excellent interface optimization, and very good quality of the final images from both cameras. It is important to note that there are many different little things here that are not noticeable at first glance: the presence of an oleophobic coating, support for the OTG protocol for connecting USB devices, a well-debugged shell, etc.

The disadvantages include poor optimization of energy consumption and a controversial display in terms of color rendering. However, if, despite everything, Huawei manages to keep the price tag for this model at an acceptable level (up to 11,000 rubles), then the device in any case can be considered a good purchase.

Already on sale Price: 8,990 rubles

Let's start with the cost - the recommended retail price of Honor 4C is 8,990 rubles. For comparison: at the other pole model range there is the flagship Mate 7, which can be bought for about 40,000 rubles. And Huawei’s flagships are not yet too expensive - for the Galaxy S 6 Edge they ask from 62,000 rubles. However, the cost of Honor 4C is quite competitive even compared to devices that are much closer in class. With the help of Yandex.Market, we have selected several of the most successful models at a similar price - and we will try to compare Honor 4C with them. So, what can a potential buyer expect for that kind of money?

Honor 4C is equipped with a 5-inch screen. By modern standards, smartphones with such a diagonal are the golden mean: everything smaller is small phones, everything larger is large. Obviously, according to Huawei's plan, this device should fall into the most popular segment.

The smartphone body is made entirely of plastic - there are no other options in this price category and it doesn’t happen, metal and glass are much more expensive. At the same time, Honor 4C hardly bends and does not creak at all, and in general it is built quite well. The materials do not leave a feeling of being expensive, but the Chinese tried to make them at least original - the back cover of the Honor 4C is textured, as if covered with fabric. The presentation says something about a “silky surface with fibers 0.03 mm wide,” but what’s important to us is that the “silky” phone doesn’t slip out of your hands and doesn’t get dirty too quickly. The appearance of the phone is generally standard, discreet - it will not attract attention, but inside this device is fraught with many surprises.

The first surprise: the budget phone uses a decent screen - an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280 × 720 (293 PPI). Of course, this display cannot be called ideal - even to the eye it is noticeable that it lacks colors, and the brightness is not very high. However, this is much better than what is offered “on average in the hospital” for the same amount. It has a good anti-reflective layer, as well as an oleophobic coating, although it’s far from the best - sliding your finger across the screen of more expensive phones is noticeably more pleasant. The phones we've chosen for comparison have either about the same or slightly worse displays. The only exception is last year's Lenovo Vibe X, which over the year of its existence on the market has fallen in price by almost one and a half times, despite the rise in the dollar, and now falls right into the budget segment.

The second surprise: the system-on-chip in the budget phone was also quite productive. Honor 4C uses the development of a subsidiary of Huawei - HiSilicon Kirin 620. It has as many as eight energy-efficient 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating at a frequency of 1.2 GHz, and the role of the graphics controller is played by the average performance ARM Mali-450 MP4 adapter . The SoC also has a built-in digital signal processor for HIFI II audio processing, which Huawei is especially proud of: there are technologies for improving the sound of the interlocutor’s voice, and noise reduction using two microphones, and DTS support, and ultra-low power consumption in music playback mode - in general, complete set standard functions that are included in every modern smartphone. Kirin 620 is produced using the 28-nm LP process technology - the more modern 14-nm technology process HiSilicon and TSMC are just beginning to master.

In Honor 4C, Kirin 620 is 2 GB RAM- which is also a lot for a “state employee” - and an 8 GB flash drive. Competitors in some cases can offer more flash memory, but none can boast a more powerful system-on-chip. Here we will mention a more or less complete set of all kinds of sensors: the smartphone has a gyroscope and an accelerometer, a magnetometer, a light sensor and a proximity sensor. Except that there is no barometer, but - again, taking into account the price - it’s a shame to complain.

In the materials provided by Huawei, there was even a third surprise, but it, unfortunately, turned out to be a mistake made by someone at the stage of drawing up the slide: the Kirin 620 block diagram showed a built-in LTE Cat.4 modem. In theory, it could well end up there - there are modifications of the Kirin 620 with LTE. However, in practice, the Honor 4C has a built-in regular 3G modem with a peak data transfer rate of 42 Mbit/s. Unfortunately, in Russia, 3G networks are quite overloaded, so even 10 Mbit/s input can only be seen on holidays - LTE in a smartphone will not be enough. For those who can’t imagine life without LTE, Honor 4X is offered - the same thing, but a little larger and with a Cat.4 LTE modem. Additional payment for increased size and improved data transfer speed - 2,000 rubles. There are not that many smartphones with LTE for the specified amount, and in most cases you have to pay for the presence of an LTE modem with other characteristics of the device. A pleasant exception to this rule is Xiaomi Redmi 2.

I am glad that Honor 4C did not implement the controversial Huawei proprietary feature and combine one of the SIM card slots with a memory card slot - here under the removable back cover you can find all three slots: two for Micro-SIM cards and one for microSD .

If you remove the cover, you can also admire the sheet of foil, under which a non-removable 9.7 Wh (2550 mAh, 3.8 V) battery is hidden. Huawei is very fond of citing some individual measurable parameters in which the phone is superior to competitors, and they even found such a parameter for the battery: according to the Chinese, it has a very high energy density - 587 Wh/l. True, we have nothing to compare with: we do not know the similar performance of competitors’ batteries. According to Huawei, the battery lasts for 28 hours of active use, that is, a little more than a day. You can watch video on a single battery charge for a little over 10 hours, and talk for about 14 hours.

Another pleasant surprise was the set of cameras. The main camera of Huawei Honor 4C uses a 13-megapixel Sony BSI CMOS matrix, found in many phones in the middle and upper price range. The lens with an equivalent focal length of 28 mm is characterized by an aperture ratio of F/2.0, and its protective glass is coated with anti-reflective and oleophobic layers. The camera takes pictures quite well - Huawei has already learned how to “tame” this matrix and squeeze out of it almost everything that it is capable of. For example, Honor 4C has the ability to shoot and then change focus - the camera takes several frames at different focusing distances and allows you to select the one you need. About front camera much less is known: 5 megapixels - that’s all. It shoots mediocre, but overall better than similar cameras from other budget cameras. The camera sets of the competitors on our list are worse, except that the Vibe X uses exactly the same set.

At the time of the presentation of the smartphone (and this material was published just in time for the presentation), Honor 4C runs Android 4.4 with Emotion UI 3.0 installed on top. Over time, Huawei promises to update software up to Android 5.0. In general, the interface is familiar to all those who have at least once seen Huawei smartphones over the past year: everything is quite nice, somewhat non-standard compared to the UI of regular Android, but simple and clear.

⇡ Conclusion

So, based on the sum of the characteristics, the Huawei Honor 4C currently looks very attractive for its 8,990. Before I definitely recommend this device, I would like to test it fully - with a time study battery life, screen parameters and SoC power, but after a two-hour acquaintance he left a mostly positive impression. Strengths This smartphone has a productive system-on-chip by the standards of this segment and a very good set of cameras. The disadvantages include the lack of an LTE module and, perhaps, an inexpressive appearance - but that’s just the taste, the color...

Competition in the mid-price smartphone segment is extremely high. However, there are not many truly powerful ones in terms of functionality, performance and workmanship. Many manufacturers seriously save on components in order to reduce the price. However, Huawei did not follow this trend and equipped its new smartphone mid-level Honor 4C with characteristics close to flagships.

According to statistics from Russian retailers, smartphones costing from 6,000 to 10,000 rubles are the most popular among buyers. For this reason, supply in this market segment reaches its maximum. Interestingly, the leaders in the number of devices sold here are Fly, Alcatel and Lenovo. Huawei, which feels increasingly stronger in the Russian market, is also gaining momentum. The latest innovation, Honor 4C, is capable of developing interest in the Chinese company among a wide range of people.

The developers did not significantly save on performance, equipping the smartphone with a 64-bit chip with an eight-core processor of their own production, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch IPS screen, a high-quality 13 megapixel camera, and a capacious battery. The only thing we can criticize this device for is the lack of LTE support. But this fact can be compensated by an attractive price of 9,000 rubles. Let's see what this gadget is capable of.

Delivery package and first impressions

id="sub1">

Honor 4C is a typical representative of smartphones with a 5-inch screen. It measures 143.3 x 71.9 x 8.8 mm and weighs 162 grams. The device fits comfortably in the hand and does not tend to slip out thanks to the matte back cover. In general, the device is perceived as fine. It can be carried in the pocket of trousers, jeans, jacket or shirt. This is possible due to its small thickness.

The scope of delivery here is standard. It includes:

  • Smartphone Huawei Honor 4C (CHM-U01)
  • USB charger adapter
  • Cable for synchronization with computer
  • Stereo headset with miniJack 3.5 mm
  • Instructions, warranty card

Design and appearance

id="sub2">

Externally, Honor 4C looks like hundreds of smartphones Chinese brands. The design is simple and uncomplicated. The case is plastic: the front is glossy, the back is matte. The back cover is made of hard plastic with a textile texture. It looks adequate, but it doesn’t add any value. A chrome insert runs along the contour on the side edges of the phone. I don’t presume to judge how resistant its coating is to mechanical damage, but during a two-week test, no cuts or abrasions appeared on it. As for the device's resistance to falls, there is no special protection, but the plastic back cover can soften the blow.

If we talk about the assembly impressions, they are good. True, because of the slight crunch when the compression apparatus is strong, you understand that the structure is not monolithic. But this is a normal situation for mid-priced smartphones.

Honor 4C is available in two color options: black and white. I had the last option at my disposal.

Almost the entire front part of the device is occupied by a large 5-inch touchscreen display. Above it is a telephone speaker. To the right of it is a 5 megapixel front camera. All kinds of sensors: motion sensor, light sensor, gyroscope - can be seen on the left. There is also an LED that lights up red while charging. It can also be configured to indicate a missed call or SMS.

Below the screen there are three standard control buttons: back one level, home screen and context menu.

The location of controls and other elements on the smartphone body is familiar and convenient. On the right there are buttons for adjusting the ringer volume and a power/lock screen key. There is no camera button here; the shooting application can only be launched from the menu or lock mode.

At the bottom end there is a standard microUSB connector for charging and connecting to a computer. There is a microphone nearby. For better voice transmission during a telephone conversation, Honor 4C also has a second microvon (noise analyzer). It can be found on the back of the device.

The 3.5 mm headphone output is located on the top edge of the device.

On the back side you can see a 13 megapixel camera lens with autofocus and LED flash. There is a speaker at the bottom for external sounds and calls. I would rate the sound a solid four. Volume is enough high level. The main thing is not to block the speaker grille, otherwise you may miss a call.

As I noted above, the Honor 4C has a collapsible body. To remove the cover, you need to pry it off the micro-USB recess. Under the cover there are two slots for microSIM cards (both can work with 3G), and between them there is a slot for installing a microSD memory card.

Screen. Graphics capabilities

id="sub3">

Honor 4C has a 5-inch screen made using IPS technology without an air gap. Resolution - 720x1280, aspect ratio - 16:9, density - 294 pixels per inch. The frame is 16 mm on top, 17 mm on the bottom, approximately 4.5 mm on the right and left. There is an anti-reflective coating, but it does not help very effectively.

Without going into details, this is an inexpensive matrix with low performance. The picture on the screen looks clear and contrasty. But the viewing angles are average; when the display deviates from the normal, an inversion of colors is visible. In direct sunlight the image remains readable.

The outside of the screen is covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3. For this reason, you don’t have to be afraid to carry the phone along with metal objects in your pocket.

Menu. Interface and navigation

id="sub4">

Honor 4C comes with operating system Android system 4.4.2 and user interface EMUI version 3.0 (aka Emotion UI - Huawei's own development). As for convenience, this is a matter of taste. The EMUI 3.0 interface is rooted in iOS, and the icons themselves are similar to Symbian: there is no separate application menu, all programs are located on desktops and folders. The software can be updated over the air.

EMUI 3.0 has many detailed settings and features: displaying network speed, displaying or hiding the operator name, changing the location of the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen, customizable “do not disturb” mode, and so on.

Among other things, the user can choose the effect when unlocking or moving between desktops, select the style of icons, fonts, and answer an incoming call when raising the phone to the ear. There is a translation function here silent mode when turning the screen down, as well as tilting the phone to organize widgets. In general, there are a lot of little things that especially impressionable people should like. There are also gesture controls. True, it was easier for me to control my smartphone the old fashioned way. But just for fun, you can assign individual gestures to launch individual applications. It's convenient.

There are also several built-in themes with the ability to download new ones for free and for a fee, as well as very nice pictures for the lock screen. This is one of the rare cases when, when purchasing a new smartphone, you do not have to change the built-in backgrounds and themes to new ones. There is a mode for automatically changing wallpaper, when the pictures are displayed in a chaotic order.

Musical Features

id="sub5">

The Honor 4C smartphone is equipped with a standard music player of its own design. It looks ascetic, but it does its main job. The application has the ability to sort tracks by albums, artists, types of music, etc. It is possible to randomly play songs and repeat them.

The volume of sound output through the speaker is quite high, the quality is decent (of course, not HTC One M8, but the sound is clear), at least there is no overload or wheezing. The quality of music playback in the headphones is good. In the settings there is an option to enable the playback mode of tracks with the DTS effect: the sound acquires more high and low frequencies.

Among other things, there is an FM radio.

Camera. Photo and video capabilities

id="sub6">

The main camera of Honor 4C is equipped with a 13 megapixel module (F2.0 aperture, 27 mm angle). Front camera 5 MP wide-angle (aperture F2.4, very wide angle 22 mm).

The quality of the resulting photos is very decent. To be honest, I didn’t expect to see such a shooting module here. Apparently, Huawei did not seriously save on photography.

As for the interface of the shooting application, it is simple and intuitive. Switching modes, turning on HDR and other essential settings are collected on one screen, it can be called up by clicking on the parameters key. More detailed settings You can also open it by clicking on the parameters button already in this window. Another thing is that they were displayed in portrait orientation. I haven’t found how to change it to landscape. Alas =(.

The main camera of the smartphone can record video with sound at a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. There is no tracking autofocus, but there is an option to select a focus point on which the camera will focus even if you move the smartphone.

Memory and speed

id="sub7">

Huawei Honor 4C is powered by a proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 620 chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores, each clocked at 1.2 GHz. Graphics subsystem (GPU) - Mali-T450 MP4. There is 2 GB of RAM. Built-in flash memory - 8 GB. In addition, microSD memory cards up to 32 GB are supported.

During the test, I did not notice any glitches or slowness of the interfaces. Everything works great. Perhaps the only thing where slowness still showed up was in games with heavy graphics. But for the main audience of this smartphone this does not matter.

Communication capabilities

id="sub8">

In addition to the standard connection to a computer via microUSB 2.0, Honor 4C has Bluetooth support 4.0. Bluetooth provides wireless connection peripheral devices: For example, A2DP/AVRCP stereo headsets. When connected via USB, the device is recharged.

When connected to a USB port, there are several connection options: Media, “Charge only”, MTP. In MTP mode, the device is picked up perfectly without additional drivers, you can copy the necessary data.

Honor 4C works in Wi-Fi networks b/g/n standards and can distribute Wi-Fi. The smartphone works without problems in networks mobile communications GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, HSPA+ 850/900/1900/2100. There is no LTE support here.

It is also worth noting that Huawei Honor 4C has a SIM card slot. True, there is only one radio module. In the settings you can set which SIM card will be used for data transfer and which for receiving calls and messages. These parameters can be changed at any time by changing the assignment of SIM cards in the settings. It's very convenient.

Navigation is carried out using GPS and GLONASS. There is no special navigation software in the smartphone.

Duration of work

id="sub9">

Honor 4C has a non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 2550 mAh. At medium load - 40 minutes telephone conversations, always on Wi-Fi, browsing the Internet for 2 hours, periodically turning on 3G - a full charge lasts for 2 days. The smartphone plays video at maximum brightness with active Wi-Fi for almost 7 hours. These are very respectable indicators. With less intensive use, you can count on 3 days of continuous operation. A positive role here is played by an economical chipset, a capacious battery and a low screen resolution.

Introduction

In April this year, Huawei held a presentation of three smartphones in Russia: Honor 6 Plus, Honor 4X and Honor 4C. Those who are interested in reading them and not reading them full reviews, follow the link below:

IN Huawei review Honor 4X I described in sufficient detail the positioning of 4X and 4C - these are devices for those who want to get powerful hardware for relatively little money, at least now it’s difficult to find a device for 9,000 rubles with two gigabytes of RAM and an 8-core processor. I would like to repeat once again that the price will not change, despite rumors that Huawei allegedly carried out a promotion in order to attract more attention to itself and its gadgets, and would later raise the price of the 4X and 4C.

It should be noted that there is a slight shortage of these devices, so Honors are supplied to the online store in batches. The next one will be after the May holidays. And so, at the time of writing the review there were no devices available.

And one more thing. The official comment on the question of how to correctly name Honor gadgets, with or without mentioning the company - simply Honor. So, for now, “Huawei” will be in the name: Huawei Honor 4C, Huawei Honor 4X, Huawei Honor 6 Plus and so on. However, Honor is no longer a line of devices, as it was before.

Design, dimensions, control elements

Externally, 4C and 4X are practically no different from each other, the difference can only be noticed in the dimensions: 143.3x71.9x8.8 mm for the younger model and 153x77x8.6 mm for the older one. Weight is approximately the same - 162 grams 4C and 170 grams 4X.

Honor 4C uses a slightly different plastic structure for the rear panel. If in 4X it resembled linen fabric, here the “pattern” is much simpler: transverse notches forming many diamonds, and the inscription “Honor” is not highlighted so large.

The rest of the device is a typical non-name “brick”. I think everyone understands what I mean.

The device is quite comfortable to use due to its compact size (yes, I think that with a screen diagonal of up to 5 inches the device can be considered compact), it fits well in the hand, the corners do not dig into the palms too much. The case is not slippery, but this is not due to the perforation on the back of the device, it’s just that the plastic itself is like that. The official website says that “the body of the smartphone is made of three-layer composite material,” “the screen occupies 76% of the front panel of the smartphone, and the logo on the back panel is inspired by traditional Chinese embroidery.”

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. After a couple of weeks of active use of the 4C, nothing bad happened to the display: no scratches, no chips, no scuffs. There is an oleophobic coating, but it is not of the highest quality: even after wiping the surface of the screen with a microfiber cloth, a light residue may remain. The finger glides across the display without difficulty.

The official website sells two color options for Honor 4C: black and white. There is also gold, but not in Russia.

At the top center is the speech speaker. Its volume is average or slightly above average, its timbre is closer to high frequencies, lacks lows. The interlocutor can be heard clearly, but not too clearly.

To the right of the speaker is the front camera, to the left are light/proximity sensors, as well as an indicator of missed events.

Below the display are typical Android buttons: “Menu”, “Home” and “Back”. They are made in the Lollipop style, marked with silver paint, and they do not have a backlight.

A micro-USB connector and a microphone are on the bottom, while on the top there is a single 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or a headset.

There are no elements on the left. On the right are the power button and the volume rocker. Comfortable.

On the reverse side there is a camera module and a flash on a separate “island”, a second microphone and a speaker from the bottom.

The case is collapsible. To remove the cover, you need to pry it over the micro-USB recess. On the left are two slots for micro-SIM cards, and between them is a connector for installing a memory card.

Display

This device uses a screen with a diagonal of 5 inches. Physical size – 62x110 mm, frame on top – 16 mm, bottom – 17 mm, on the right and left – approximately 4.5 mm. There is an anti-reflective coating, but it is not very effective.

The display resolution of Huawei Honor 4C is HD, that is, 1280x720 pixels, aspect ratio is 16:9, density is 294 pixels per inch. IPS matrix without air gap.

The maximum brightness of white color is 353 cd/m2, the maximum brightness of black color is 0.63 cd/m2. Contrast – 560:1.

The white line is the goal we are trying to achieve. The yellow line is the actual data on this screen. You can see that we are directly below the target curve, meaning that for every value between 0 and 100 the image is not bright enough. The yellow line is actually the average amount of red, green and blue.

The average gamma value is 2.4. Schedule for mobile screen quite stable.

Judging by the levels graph, there is a slight excess of blue and a clear lack of red.

The temperature practically does not change depending on the brightness and is approximately 7500K.

Judging by the diagram, the data obtained does not quite correspond to the sRGB triangle. It is quite strongly shifted upward to the right.

Viewing angles are average, at certain angles you can even notice an inversion, not to mention the fact that we will see a more purple picture on the right, and a yellow one on the left.

If you don’t go into details, this is an extremely budget matrix with low performance.

Battery

This model uses a non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 2550 mAh. There is no official information about the operating time of the device, so we tested it ourselves:

  • Playing 720p video (MP4) at maximum screen brightness and headphone volume – approximately 6 hours
  • Browsing via Wi-Fi – about 18 hours
  • Browsing via 3G – about 10 hours
  • The total average operating time of the device (3G, calls, SMS, letters, Twitter) is approximately 20 hours.

Overall, the Honor 4C showed excellent results. The chipset, the capacious battery, and the low screen resolution all played a role here.

Communication capabilities

This model works in 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (HSPA+ up to 42 Mbit/s) networks. Both SIM card slots operate in 2G/3G. Unlike Honor 4X, Honor 4C does not support LTE. There is also no NFC chip. The remaining parameters are the usual: Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS.

The official website says: “Laser technology and dual design improve signal reception - the antenna power is 3 dB higher than that of smartphones in this class, which guarantees stable communication in areas of poor network coverage. For higher efficiency, GPS and Wi-Fi antennas use a special asymmetric technology.” Unfortunately or fortunately, I cannot confirm or refute these words - everything is typical for any such device.

Memory and memory card

The developers did not skimp on RAM, so in this model you can find 2 GB of RAM. For a device costing 9,000 rubles, this is simply an excellent indicator.

Built-in memory 8 GB, about 5 GB available to the user. There is a slot for a microSD memory card. The maximum card capacity can be 32 GB.

Cameras

The main module is 13 MP (F2.0 aperture, 27 mm angle), the front module is 5 MP (F2.4 aperture, very wide angle 22 mm).

Apparently, Honor 4X and Honor 4C have the same camera modules, at least I didn’t notice much of a difference. It is possible that the automation in Honor 4C works a little worse: sometimes it misses the white balance, especially in low lighting conditions.

For a device that costs about 9,000 rubles, the footage obtained is quite at the level of smartphones costing 15,000 rubles.

The rear camera shoots video in FullHD resolution at 30 fps. The quality is ordinary, nothing interesting. The front camera shoots videos in HD quality.

Performance

Huawei Honor 4C, in fact, like Honor 4X, uses HiSilicon Kirin 620 chipsets with eight processor cores. The configuration of this solution includes eight Cortex-A53 processor cores (28 nm process technology) with a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz and a Mali-T450 MP4 GPU.

In order not to repeat what was said in the Honor 4X review, I note that the 4C device is fast and not slow at all, there are no shell friezes. When it comes to performance in games, things are not so clear. Of course, most games run fine, but there are applications in which the number of frames decreases quite noticeably, and some effects disappear. For example, Dead Trigger 2 did not run at all on my sample. Honor 4X behaved similarly.

Brief information

Performance tests

Software platform

The device works in the operating room Google system Android versions 4.4.2. The shell uses a proprietary UI called EMUI version 3.0.

Multimedia

The Honor 4C smartphone is equipped with a standard music player of its own production. The volume of sound output through the speaker is quite high, the quality is good (the sound is loud and clear), at least there is no overload or wheezing.

The volume in the headphones is high. The quality is excellent. In the settings, you can easily turn on the melody playback mode with the DTS effect: the sound acquires more high and low frequencies.

If you are looking for a smartphone under 10,000 rubles, then I recommend taking a closer look at the Huawei Honor 4C. For the money, the device turned out to be successful.
