What were smartphones like five years ago, what was the iPhone like? Can it be compared with modern flagships? Of course not. These devices have come a long way in development and have now become almost a full-fledged computer in your pocket. There are just two problems. Those who like to stand out from the crowd with using iPhone won't stand out anymore. With the help of the Korean “soap” Galaxy S, by the way, too. But this is a problem of worldview. For sensible citizens, the main thing is that the apparatus fulfills its assigned tasks, and it does, only for a short time. Unfortunately, over the same five years there have been no fundamental changes in the field of batteries. On average with active use mobile internet a modern smartphone, including the iPhone, barely survives until the evening, and often does not survive. But what a bummer when you need to make an urgent call, but the battery of your favorite gadget is already low, and you don’t have it with you. In such situations, good old mobile phones without frills come to the rescue. A kind of “dialer” with a small display and a hardware alphanumeric keyboard that works for days without a power outlet. Just5CP10S will easily fulfill such a role, and will even attract the attention of others, if this is important to you. Moreover, this product is so versatile that it is perfect for both an elderly person and a fashionable hipster, and any child will be delighted. Let's talk about this.

A real iPhone in the “granny phone” market

In 2009, the Just5 company reinvented the mobile phone - as it is now fashionable to say at the suggestion of one well-known American manufacturer. More precisely, she proposed a device convenient for older people, and hit the mark. A simple phone with large keys, a convenient menu and large font immediately captivated the public and won a prestigious award Red Dot Design Award and marked the beginning of a new branch of development of this kind of devices. Since then, many similar solutions and all kinds of alternatives have appeared, and Just5 has not stood still.

Moreover, the company was able to even improve the basic idea and at the same time preserve the fundamental principles of these gadgets, as evidenced by the new model Just5CP10S. Yes, there are more functional models, there are cheaper ones, but the original still sets the quality bar... some kind of marketing hell has begun. But the phone really impressed me. This is a kind of iPhone among simple “dialers” and it is packaged in an appropriately premium way:

The box is made of high-quality, thick cardboard with a magnetic flap and is packed in a silver dust jacket. It looks impressive and feels great. Inside there is a thick instruction manual in several languages, and under it the phone itself:

By the way, such a large package surprised and even evoked nostalgia for the old days, when phones were packed in suitcase-sized boxes. Hidden under the phone is a gorgeous orange color charger and micro-USB cable, as well as simple headphones. It's a shame they aren't orange either.

There was also a 1000 mAh battery, which is quite good for such a phone:

I received a turquoise sample with orange accents, although there are many other color options in the assortment:

The design of the gadget is cool, and the keyboard with huge buttons is a song. A clear click, you can easily hit the keys and, in general, I miss hardware alphanumeric keyboards, especially such convenient ones. You click on the buttons and you don’t want to let go of the phone.

But besides the keyboard there are a lot of other features. Due to its rounded shape, the phone resembles a pebble, and the rounded glass of the display only enhances the effect. Matte plastic with a slight Soft Touch effect is pleasant to the touch, does not slip in your hands and does not get particularly dirty.

All controls and technical openings are located on the edges of the device, including a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top, FM (radio start) and volume control buttons on the left, a lever to turn on the flashlight and, attention!, key lock lever- on the right side. Yes, yes, the keyboard is locked not with a key combination, as in other phones, but with a simple slider. First of all, this was done for the convenience of older people, who find it easier to move a lever than to quickly click a couple of buttons. On the bottom there is a micro-USB port and a pair of contacts for the dock and accessories.

Apart from a couple of levers, everything is more or less standard, but don’t rush. There is also an emergency button on the back panel. It can be configured to different actions. For example, enter emergency number, which when clicked will make a call, or add an SOS message and in case of problems, with one click it can be sent to a specific number. Also convenient for the elderly and children. What if grandma gets a heart attack - just one click is enough to warn your relatives.

The back cover is removed with a slight movement (apply your palm and pull down) - click - and you can insert a SIM card. I note that the SIM holder is not the most convenient. In this case, it is problematic to use cut cards through an adapter. In principle, I do not recommend even trying to do this. The adapter may get stuck and then you cannot do without an operation at the service center.

But it’s better to show it once than to describe it in words many times. I suggest you take a look at the video review of the device, and at the same time briefly evaluate its menu:

Operating experience. Click, click, click!

I'm already unaccustomed to simple mobile phones that don't work without a SIM card. Together with the Just5 CP10S I had to get used to it again and look for a full-size card. A couple of movements, remove and insert the battery, close the phone, that's it - you can work. The first launch and the first questions from the gadget: choosing a language, date and time - a standard set.

After this, you can start working with the device. At first, the unusual symbols for the cellular network signal (a square spiral), the battery charge (a square divided into four parts) and the angular font are somewhat confusing, but over time you get used to it. Plus, it is highly legible, the icons and letters are large and easily legible in any conditions.

It won’t be difficult to figure out the menu and you can do it at random or look at the instructions, everything is described there literally on one page. The scheme is simple: the buttons on the left (OK) and on the right (X) under the screen are responsible for confirmation or refusal when working with the menu, or for activating the current function, shown as an icon: on the left - a missed call, on the right - a message. Clicking on the top of the central paired button on the main screen calls up the menu. In other cases, she is responsible for moving through items.

The menu is as compact as possible, simple and consists of only a few items: settings, messages, calls, organizer and contacts. We know all of them from any other “dialers” and the hero of the review is not particularly different in this regard.

Although there are some points worth paying attention to. For example, there is support for airplane mode:

Setting the time to turn your phone on and off:

There are also good applications in the organizer section. There is even one game from which you can understand that the display is actually color and not monochrome:

The phone rings very loudly and sharply. There is no trace of bass, but it is simply impossible not to hear it. There is a choice of several melodies, which are more than enough for this kind of gadget. The internal speaker is also quite good, I can hear the interlocutor well, and I can hear me at the other end of the line too.

The flashlight is not particularly powerful, but to illuminate your way in the dark or a keyhole, it is quite enough. But the white backlighting of the keys is bright and cheerful - even with poor vision, the inscriptions on the buttons will not merge into one bright spot and will be clearly visible.

The phone is as simple as a log, but cool. It is pleasant to hold in your hands and is convenient to use. There are no additional functions, such as an MP3 player, but they are not needed. The pensioner will only make calls, and comfortably, without squinting, trying to read small letters, and without aiming at each button with his fingernail. If this is a backup phone (hipsters should like it), then it doesn’t need any special functions, because in addition there is an iPhone, iPad or some other “smart” gadget.
