Last week, various insiders were literally bombarded with leaks about unannounced smartphones from Taiwanese HTC. Among them was the One E9, which will be available in two versions – standard (E9) and premium (E9+). Comprehensive information on both models has appeared on the official website of HTC in China, including technical specifications and positioning. So, we received smartphones flagship design One M9 with its own characteristics - while the body of the March favorite is made entirely of metal, the new One E series uses plastic. And here we will see the first significant difference between the standard and advanced versions - the latter received a thin and light metal frame and front panel, while the One E9 is made entirely of plastic. Naturally, BoomSound dynamics are in place. This time they boast Dolby Audio 5.1 technology and various effects.

Significant differences are also present in technical parameters HTC One E9/E9+. Both received a 5.5” display, but different resolutions – 1080p and 1440p, respectively. In addition, the main camera module is also different - the standard version will have a 13-megapixel sensor, and the premium version will have a 20-megapixel sensor, which we can find in the One M9. In both cases, the famous proprietary Ultrapixel module is used as the front camera. Finally, the difference between the two devices is the volume RAM. Depending on the modification, this is 2 or 3 GB. Well, the general graphs in the specifications are as follows: 8-core MediaTek MT 6795 chipset with a frequency of 2 GHz and PowerVR Series 6 graphics, 16 GB internal memory(expandable with microSD cards up to 128 GB), 2800 mAh battery and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the proprietary Sense UI shell.

The official presentation is expected to take place on April 8. The One M9+ could be unveiled on the same day, which will be a premium smartphone with a 2K screen in metal. Prices for One E9 and E9+ in China will be ¥2499-2699 (23.2-25 thousand rubles) and ¥2999 (28 thousand rubles), respectively. Available in gold grey, gold silver and silver grey. Unfortunately, for now we are only talking about the Asian market, but, if successful, it may officially come to Europe (as was the case with the One E8).

    Excellent screen with a resolution of 2560x1440. Does not go blind in the sun. Despite its relatively large dimensions, it is very light. There is an FM radio, 2 Sim (nano). Very fast. Nothing slows down with a bunch of running applications. Loud and clear speaker. Practically does not heat up. VERY fast standard charging (requires an adapter for Russian sockets). There is a slot for microSD!

    2 years ago

    The battery drains extremely quickly! After a month of use, the front camera stopped working, after another 2 weeks the camera began to hang on the app (((Today I carry it under warranty.

    2 years ago

    Dimensions with the same screen size, I would like to see smaller ones. A lot of unnecessary software.

    2 years ago

    Battery. Although it was to be expected from such a screen. Something is wrong with the speaker. It can be hard to hear (deaf).

    2 years ago

    As it turned out, there were more disadvantages, which is a pity... The first is the sound. Honestly, none. If you put it in your jeans pocket or inside your jacket, I can guarantee that you will miss half of the calls on the street. Very quiet. Vibration doesn't help. Weak. The camera could be better based on the stated characteristics and price. The camera settings are weak. The LG G-4 is head and shoulders above in this regard. In my opinion, manufacturers saved on battery capacity. They could well have inserted a battery with a larger capacity. And the most important thing that no one has written about yet - Pay attention to the smartphone charging point. Take a magnifying glass and look at it. The upper edge of the slot, which is closer to the screen, is a very thin plastic framed with a nickel-like rim. THIS PLACE breaks down even with careful plugging and unplugging of charging. And I didn’t notice it right away. Notice

March 30, 2015 is the official release date for new products from HTC called E9 and E9+. These are mid-class smartphones, as well as simplified models of the well-known M9 and M9 Plus. Today it’s worth talking about the HTC One E9 smartphone, since the model is quite interesting and for lovers of unusual designs from the Taiwanese manufacturer, it will be 100% suitable. It has an excellent display, quite good technical specifications and other remarkable qualities that make this device attractive even in the realities of 2018.

Gray version of the HTC One E9 smartphone

The company did not make any high-profile presentations during the announcement, but simply published information about the devices on its official website. Their design remained from the flagships of the M series, but the performance capabilities were slightly curtailed. This is exactly what today’s full review of the middling product from Taiwan – HTC One E9 – will talk about.

Specifications

The brain of the device is the MediaTek Helio X10 chipset. The display was manufactured by Tianma, which is famous for its quality products throughout China. Generally, The characteristics of the device are quite interesting, the chipset is not the most powerful, but it allows you to play heavy games. The camera here is 13 megapixels, the body has high-quality stereo speakers with support for Dolby Atmos technology, and the price at the start of sales was about 300–400 bucks. Detailed specifications can be found in the table below.

Options and packaging

The device comes in an interesting box, which made of thick white cardboard, similar to plastic. Top cover textured with a huge number of small holes, in the middle of which there is the name of the device. Under the cover lies the device itself in a separate block that can be removed. A little deeper in the box are:

  • headphones;
  • replaceable headsets;
  • charger;
  • microUSB cable;
  • instructions and warranty card describing the characteristics in Chinese.

The smartphone package looks like this

The package package is quite poor, but this is not critical, since the HTC One E9 is not positioned as a flagship device. Below the box is printed a description of the main characteristics of the device. By the way, HTC is famous for the quality of printing on boxes, instructions and other paper “products” of the manufacturer.

Please note

The choice of color modifications for the smartphone is small and consists of three solutions: white, black and brown, and this is a minus, since not all people will be satisfied with the above colors.

Video

Appearance and design

It's worth starting with assembling the device, because this is the most interesting thing about the HTC One E9. The smartphone is made entirely of plastic, and only the power/lock button and the main round edging rear camera made of aluminum. It is completely unclear why it was done this way: either there was not enough metal for all batches of smartphones, or this is a feature of HTC smartphones in 2015. I wonder what back cover blends smoothly into the ribs and there is no unpleasant separation by any deep silver stripes or other unnecessary things.

There is no separate pull-out tray for memory cards and SIM cards. They are separate and built into motherboard smartphone. They are protected by a special white plug located on the left side of the device. On the right there are volume buttons and a metal power key with an interesting polish. At the bottom there is only a connector for charging microUSB, and at the top a mini-jack for headphones with a diameter of 3.5 mm peeks out alone.

Important to know

The front panel is covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass III.

On the front you can see not only a 5.5-inch screen, but also huge black frames along the contour of the display, Boomsound stereo speakers, a notification indicator that does not shine very well and is almost invisible even with small deviations of the smartphone from the user’s eyes; proximity and light sensors, and a front camera. The front panel is not completely covered with glass. Above and below the glass part there are plastic elements in which voice speakers are hidden.

This is what the devices look like in all three colors:

The smartphone is presented in these shades

Depending on the selected color, the front panel is painted to match the color of the body. For example, The main color of HTC One E9 is brown - which means the front panel will be brown. But why it was necessary to make such thick frames around the display is a huge question, since in 2015 manufacturers began to try to make the frames narrow, thereby giving elegance to the device. Apparently, the Taiwanese manufacturer decided not to deprive consumers of nostalgia for past years.

At the back in the center are the main camera, an LED flash, a hole under which an additional microphone for the noise reduction system is hidden, and the manufacturer’s logo. For some reason, the camera is located very high, almost behind the body. The distance from the top end to the camera is only a few millimeters.

Please note

The power button is located high, and since the dimensions of the phone with a 5.5-inch screen are rather large, it is difficult to reach the button. The device is difficult to operate with one hand, but the back panel is not slippery.

In principle, the design is mediocre. The front panel looks very dubious, everything else is standard. Plastic case It's not put together very well, as the back panel creaks when pressed lightly, which is unforgivable for a $350 device. The buttons do not play, There is no air gap between the glass and the display matrix.

The body dimensions of the device are: 156.5x76.5x7.48 mm, and the weight is only 147 grams, which is not much for such a large device. It is noteworthy that the thickness is small and the company did not decide to make huge bulges on the rear panel in the area of the headphone jack and charging socket, as the Korean company Samsung did, which is very good - the large thickness of the case is lost and it feels “flagship-like” "

Display

HTC One E9 5.5-inch display

On the front, the HTC One E9 has a large and high-quality 5.5-inch display from TIANMA. He made using and has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels or Full HD. It is worth noting that the model with the Plus prefix is equipped with a 2K screen. The sensor is responsive, and thanks to a good and high-quality layer of oleophobic coating, the finger glides perfectly on the glass. This promotes good productivity and usability in games and office applications, as well as the browser.

The touchscreen supports up to ten simultaneous finger touches. Thanks to the high pixel density of 401 ppi, individual dots on the screen are not visible, and you cannot see the pixel grid with the naked eye. The viewing angles are excellent and the screen is well calibrated. Color reproduction is natural, but if you compare the HTC One E9 screen with other competing devices, then The colors here are warmer and fade into a greenish tint. This screen is juicier, which some people may not like. It will also make your eyes get tired faster.

Will be useful

The black color is not very deep and fades with critical deviations from the user’s eyes, but this is not critical, since IPS matrices have always had this problem- This is a feature of the screen.

The minimum threshold is not very good, it could be a little dimmer, but the maximum is just excellent. In bright sunshine, you can easily see the picture on the screen. Overall, the screen is pleasant, colorful, with excellent natural color reproduction. Among the software features of the screen, it is worth noting some gestures. For example, the swipe up gesture to unlock the phone is very useful and convenient, but there are no such gestures as quick start certain applications.

Please note

Thanks to the oleophobic coating, the screen is reluctant to collect fingerprints, and if it does, it won’t be difficult to wipe them off - two small, light movements of the screen on a sweater or dry cloth and the screen is as good as new.

Software

operating system Android smartphone 5.0.2

The smartphone works out of the box and is not running the latest version. operating system Android 5.0.2 with a proprietary shell from the manufacturer HTC Sense 7. There is nothing left from here. The company has redone everything, making the system more understandable and easier to understand for the average user of the device. In general, this shell was the most attractive among all that are on the market. It competed with another beautiful shell from Samsung called TouchWiz.

HTC Sense 7 is a system for young people. There are a lot of different colors here, and in the settings you can change the themes, download them from the Internet or install some of your own from other smartphones, which is very cool. All installed applications are located not on desktops, but in a separate “Menu” button.

Important to know

There are no touch buttons in the device - they are replaced with software ones, and this is bad, since the keys take up a lot of useful display area.

The smartphone interface looks like this

As mentioned earlier, there are Motion Launcher gestures. There is no HTC browser here, but right out of the box you can see pre-installed Google services and browser Google Chrome. By the way, to update system services and applications to latest versions, there is no need to change the firmware, since they are already available in the Google Play Market application store, from where they can be updated.

Some icons, the Camera application and the notification panel (curtain) have been redesigned.

Sound

Above and below the display are two Boomsound stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos. HTC One E9 is positioned as a music device, this is not surprising, since the speakers sound really decent. The speakers are loud, bassy, and produce surround sound - what else is needed for a true music lover. There are two modes: “Music” and “In the Theater”. The first one is more suitable for listening to tracks. The second increases the volume, but degrades the sound quality, so it can be recommended for playing games or watching videos in YouTube.

The speaker produces a clear and loud sound, there are no complaints about it. Microphones also do an excellent job of their main task. The interlocutor will hear you well and so will you.

The sound in the headphones is excellent, but sometimes the volume is not enough. This happens in noisy places, metro, train station or minibus - keep this in mind.

Please note

The company took care of music lovers and added special modes for HTC headphones, however, the included headset sounds bad and it clearly does not reveal the full potential of the music device.

Performance

The hardware of the device is an eight-core processor from MediaTek called Helio X10 or MT6795M. Its eight cores work at constant clock frequency 2 GHz. The memory sizes are 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM, of which about 8-10 GB are available to the user out of the box after the first turn on and updating applications. This is not enough, but the company has provided for everything and added the ability to install microSD memory cards up to 128 GB into the smartphone.

Helio X10 processor

The PowerVR G6200 video accelerator is responsible for the graphics and this is a reasonable decision on the part of the manufacturer, since the graphics from Mali do not work the best and not all games are optimized for these graphics chipsets. Thanks to this, the smartphone scores about 50 thousand points in Antutu Benchmark. On ultra high settings graphics at a resolution of 1800x1080 pixels in the Epic Citadel, the number of frames per second was 40 FPS, and for a mid-class smartphone this figure is excellent.

Testing a smartphone in the Antutu benchmark

Things are even better in games. At high settings, tank graphics run at 40–58 frames per second. The number is constantly changing, but the picture is smooth and this does not affect the operation of the game in any way. Naturally, the smartphone is not a gaming one, and after two hours of play there may be severe drawdowns due to throttling.
